Should NZ use fossil fuels

When thinking about global warming and climate change we often jump to the conclusion that we can easily cut out certain things we use, but the truth is most things we do is creating Green House Gases.

Green House gases are Formed/Created not only by humans but also animals such as Cows. The dairy industry is one of the mass producers of greenhouse gases without even knowing it.  Did you know? One cow per year can release up to 120kg of methane and in a normal herd there are a lest 300 cows, Thats 36000Kg per year for one herd.

When burning coal there are three main chemicals released, nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide & mercury. The main culprit for climate change is nitrous oxides, when burning coal nitrous oxides is mainly released, this is why parties such as the Green’s are trying to stop the Burning & Mining of coal on the West Coast.

On the West Coast Mining is one of the larger indisty’s, along with farming. In 2018, alone 2,961,029 tons of coal was mined and sold on the west coast, so as you can see, coal is definitely one of the larger profits for the West Coast. Coal sells at $35.99 per ton, So altogether, mining brought up a whole of $106,567,433.71 in one year. Thats alot of money.

So in conclusion, all we really need to do is cut down on certain things, but those things have to be huge to make any sort of difference.
